About the Authors

Becky Tarver Chase is a program director at the University of Wisconsin. Her focus is on teaching English with an international perspective and providing rich and enjoyable language experiences for adult and young adult learners. Her areas of expertise include communication, writing, and test preparation, and she has authored or co-authored several National Geographic Learning titles, including World English and Pathways.

Cynthia Fettig has over 27 years of experience as an educational materials writer, editor and trainer in the English Language Teaching field. She has written and developed a wide variety of print, online, and multimedia student products as well as resources for teachers around the world. Cynthia has a passion for writing interactive materials that inspire learners of all ages and skill levels.

Christien Lee, who has dual Canadian and British citizenship, has worked in English Language Teaching since 1994. His roles have included teacher, teacher trainer, curriculum developer, materials writer, director of studies, consultant, and author. He has broad experience in different aspect of ELT, but specializes in academic English and, particularly, exam preparation. Currently, his focus is on writing books and materials and developing innovative e-learning resources. He is the author of several ELT books, including other titles for National Geographic Learning.

Paul MacIntyre, who earned his MA in TESL from Simmons College in Boston, has extensive teaching experience in Japan and the United States and currently enjoys a career that blends teaching with materials writing and editing. He is a perennial contributing writer for some of the best-known publishers in the field of ELT and also works as a web content consultant. For National Geographic Learning, he has authored two levels of the successful Reading Explorer series as well as Pathways 4: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking.  He currently resides near Boston.

Kathy Najafi holds an MAELT from Reading University, London, U.K. and is currently pursuing an Ed. D. in Higher Education Leadership. She has extensive ESL/EFL teaching experience in the United Arab Emirates, Iran and the United States. Besides teaching all English subject areas, Kathy is a published author, editor, translator and curriculum developer. She is the author of numerous VESL manuals for Houston Community College and Lone Star College. Ms. Najafi is also creator, co-producer and host of HCCTV’s ‘Bridging Cultures’. A past president of TexTESOL IV, Kathy also enjoys presenting on Cross-Cultural Awareness / Intercultural Communication. She is currently Program Coordinator of the Intensive English Department at Houston Community College.
